Vacuum Casting (V-Process) of Alloy Steel and Cast Iron
At RV Casting, we specialize in Vacuum Casting (V-Process) — an advanced casting technology ideal for producing high-quality, dimensionally accurate metal components from Alloy Steel and Cast Iron.

The Vacuum Casting process, also known as V-Process Casting or Vacuum Moulding, is a type of dry sand casting. It involves extracting air from the casting mold using vacuum equipment to create a pressure difference. This pressure difference causes a heated plastic film to tightly cover the pattern and template, forming a strong mold capable of withstanding molten metal during pouring.

Once the vacuum mold is prepared, the sand box is filled with dry, binder-free sand, and the top surface is sealed with a plastic film. Vacuum suction compacts the sand tightly to ensure shape accuracy. The mold is then assembled with sand cores and prepared for metal pouring. After solidification and cooling, the vacuum is released, and the casting is removed easily.

Metals Cast by Vacuum Mould Casting

At RV Casting, we handle a wide range of ferrous materials, including:

  1. Carbon Steel: Low, Medium & High Carbon Steel.
  2. Alloy Steel: CrMo, High Mn, SiMn Alloy Steels, etc.
  3. Stainless Steel: Austenitic, Duplex, and PH Stainless Steels
  4. Cast Iron: Grey Iron, Ductile Iron, and Malleable Iron
Vacuum Casting Patterns
Our precision-engineered patterns ensure superior accuracy and surface finish in every casting. Each pattern is crafted for strength, repeatability, and dimensional consistency, ensuring flawless mold preparation.
V-Process (Vacuum) Casting Procedures
  1. The pattern is tightly covered with a thin sheet of plastic film.
  2. A flask is placed over the coated pattern and filled with dry, binder-free sand.
  3. The second flask is placed on top, and a vacuum draws the sand tightly around the pattern.
  4. Both halves of the mold are created and assembled under vacuum.
  5. During pouring, the mold remains under vacuum (but the casting cavity does not).
  6. After the metal solidifies, the vacuum is released, and the sand naturally collapses, freeing the casting.

This process produces castings with excellent surface quality, dimensional precision, and minimal defects — particularly suitable for large, flat, or thin-walled components.

Advantages of V-Process Casting at RV Casting
  1. High-dimensional accuracy and smooth surface finish
  2. No use of binders, water, or chemical additives, simplifying sand processing
  3. Easy cleaning and minimal gas generation during pouring
  4. Suitable for both small-batch and mass production
  5. Excellent for medium to large castings and complex thin-walled parts
  6. Environmentally friendly and cost-efficient
